Is my contractor required to bring all of the wiring and electrical equipment on a residential system brought up to current code when I remodel my residence?
No, only the area where the remodeling is taking place. Such as, where adding new walls or ceilings, moving walls or ceilings and similar situations. Then the wiring and electrical equipment in these areas needs to meet the current code language. However, if you are converting your residence to a commercial property, it is required to be brought up to commercial standards.
