Where does Edmond’s water come from?
We have two primary and one secondary source for water. The two primary sources are: Surface water from Arcadia Lake that is treated through a very sophisticated water production facility on the east side of the lake. We also have 56 water wells that we use to obtain water from the Garber-Wellington aquifer. This is a vast store of water located underground and has been in used by Edmond since the beginning of our water supply development. The secondary source is purchased water from the City of Oklahoma City. We have a long term contract in place with Oklahoma City that allows Edmond to purchase up to 15 million gallons per day. We use the Oklahoma City water to ensure that we have adequate supplies for our citizens use and fire safety during periods of very high demands such as summer months.
