What is the procedure for a tort claim?
The procedure is as follows:
  1. The city receives a completed Tort Claim Form from a claimant with all required documentation attached. Directions for completing the Notice of Tort Claim are outlined on the back of the form.
  2. The claim is evaluated by the Risk Management Department to determine if it should be submitted to the insurance company for investigation of liability, or if repairs can be made-in house.
  3. When a claim is submitted to the insurance company, it is investigated and a recommendation is made to the city to either approve or deny the claim.
  4. The City Council and / or Risk Management Department has final authority to accept recommendation.
