Why must we use the city's trash service?
State of Oklahoma laws require municipalities to provide weekly garbage and trash collection and disposal service for the safety and welfare of the general public. Municipalities may permit, contract, or provide the services themselves. Edmond residents and businesses must use the trash service provided by the city, unless their location is beyond the city's service area. If the city does not provide service, the resident or business can contract the service directly with private providers.

Edmond elected to provide trash collection and disposal services for the mutual benefit of all residents. Our goal is to provide the best possible service for the lowest possible cost using "economies of scale." In other words, all customers benefit collectively from lower pricing than each could obtain individually.
