Why must we use the city's trash service?: State of Oklahoma laws require municipalities to provide weekly garbage and trash collection and disposal service for the safety and welfare of the general public. Municipalities may permit, contract, or provide the services themselves. Edmond residents and businesses must use the trash service provided by the city, unless their location is beyond the city's service area. If the city does not provide service, the resident or business can contract the service directly with private providers.

Edmond elected to provide trash collection and disposal services for the mutual benefit of all residents. Our goal is to provide the best possible service for the lowest possible cost using "economies of scale." In other words, all customers benefit collectively from lower pricing than each could obtain individually.

1. As a resident, what do I get for my $15.35 per month?: Edmond customers receive a 96-gallon refuse (trash) cart, a 96-gallon recycling collection cart and unlimited household hazardous waste (HHW) collections.

2. How do I schedule a bulk collection and how is the charge for that service determined?: Monthly large item / bulky collections are available on an on-call basis for all residential and commercial customers. You don't have to store unwanted items. You can request this monthly service on an as-needed basis by calling the Utility Customer Service Center at (405) 359-4541.

Charges are $10 per cubic yard for the first 2 cubic yards and $5 for each additional cubic yard. Note: dimensions for a cubic yard are 36 inches in length, 36 inches in width, and 36 inches in height.

For larger piles of debris such as tree limbs, one can determine the number of cubic yards by measuring the pile of debris (in feet) and multiplying the length by the width by the height, and then dividing that total of those three measurements by 27 to get cubic yards.

3. Can I opt out of the recycling program and if there is a charge how do I go about getting that taken off my bill?: The City of Edmond elected to provide recycle/trash collection and disposal services for the mutual benefit of all residents. Our goal is to provide the best possible service for the lowest possible cost using "economies of scale." In other words, all customers benefit collectively from lower pricing than each could obtain individually. All residents have the recycle charge included in their Solid Waste Utility; however, the participation is voluntary.
