About the Citizen Fire Academy

The Citizen Fire Academy is an 8-week program designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of fire, rescue, and emergency medical operations in the Edmond Fire Department. The program will enhance participant's knowledge of the Edmond Fire Department's capabilities, as well as build relationships between the Edmond Fire Department and the citizens we strive to protect. There is no cost for this program.
Citizens Fire Academy

Activities

Participants in the academy will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities. Participants will be equipped with appropriate protective equipment during these activities. All activities are voluntary, but we encourage participation.


Sample Topics Include:

  • Fire behavior, water supplies, and fire hose
  • Fire investigations
  • First aid and CPR
  • Forcible entry, extrication, and ventilation
  • Hazardous materials
  • Personal protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus
  • Search and rescue, thermal image cameras, and fire extinguishers
  • Technical rescue

Candidate Requirements

  • Candidates are encouraged to attend all classes
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Must be an Edmond resident or work in Edmond City limits
  • No criminal record
  • Please be advised a free courtesy background check will be conducted on all applicants.

The Edmond Fire Department is not currently accepting applications for the Citizen Fire Academy.
