Congratulations to Edmond Lions Club, the winner of this year’s
Volunteer Group of the Year Award! This award is based on a total number of points earned by group members by attending volunteer opportunities from April to March. Edmond Lions Club is a great example of how consistency can triumph over numbers in this award. While the group was smaller than many of the other groups who volunteer with Urban Forestry, they attended multiple events throughout the year. One member, Marvyn Olson, attended seven of the twelve volunteer opportunities offered. Points earned by an individual at each event increases with each time they participate.
Urban Forestry announced the award winner at the Arbor Day Tree Planting on March 31st at Carl Reherman Park. Edmond Lions Club was featured in a recognition ad in Edmond Life & Leisure, and they also received a $250 value in trees, to plant in a location of their choosing. Thank you to Edmond Lions Club for their dedication to enhancing Edmond’s urban forest!
In April, we started up again with a clean slate for all groups to earn points toward next year’s award.

volunteer program has taken a short break for the summer months, but events will pick up again in late August.
