You support your local government operations. Of the 8.5% sales tax you pay on purchases in Edmond, 4% comes back to our city and makes up the majority of our general fund revenues. The general fund pays for services like police and fire protection, parks and recreation programs, improvements to our streets, and social services that assist our residents in times of need.
Our sales taxes are actually less than many other metro area cities. It's true! Not only will you find department stores, specialty shops and unique gifts in Edmond, you'll pay less sales tax.
The sales tax rate in Edmond is 8.5%. Of that 8.5%, the State of Oklahoma receives 4.5% and the City of Edmond receives 4%. The City's sales tax revenue is used for the general fund, public safety, parks, and capital improvements. The following is how the 4% is used to serve our citizens:
Two cents go to the general fund (for city operations such as street maintenance)
1/4 cent goes to public safety (fire)
1/8 cent goes to public safety (police)
1/8 cent goes to parks
3/4 cent goes to capital improvement projects
1/2 cent goes to capital improvement projects (10-year sunset provision)
1/4 cent goes to purchase 22 acres of land adjacent to Hafer Park. (Temporary through the end of 2022).
Edmond City Limits
The City of Edmond only receives sales tax revenue from purchases made within Edmond City Limits. Purchases made outside of the boundaries shown above will not contribute any sales tax revenue to our community.
