The City of Edmond has just wrapped up another successful Arbor Week, which was held during the last full week of March, the 22nd – 28th! Read on for some highlights from this year’s events.

This year’s Arbor Week celebration kicked off with a full house at the City Council meeting on March 23rd, which included:
  • The Mayor’s Arbor Week Proclamation
  • A presentation by Mark Bays, the Oklahoma Urban Forestry Coordinator, to recognize Edmond for recertifying as a Tree City USA for the 15th year and being one of four Oklahoma cities to receive a Growth Award in 2015! Edmond Electric was recognized for their 14th year as a Tree Line USA.
  • Recognition of First Place students from each school participating in the Arbor Day Art Contest, including prizes such as gift cards from Citizens Bank of Edmond and donated framing from Frame Master Gallery (find out more in the Arbor Day Art Contest section of the newsletter). The Fifth Annual Arbor Day Art Show will be on display through April 25th at the Edmond Historical Society & Museum.
On Saturday, March 28th, Urban Forestry partnered with Edmond Public Schools to plant trees along the front of Edmond North High School on Danforth for the Fifth Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting!
  • We had nearly 150 volunteers, from Edmond North High School student groups as well as other groups from the community such as Johnson Controls Inc., Lighthouse Baptist Church, Cross Timbers and Centennial Art Clubs, Friends of North, Cub Scout Pack 348, and many other individuals.
  • 29 trees were planted to provide a buffer from the road, shade on school grounds, and beautification by unique features of the species planted.
  • Tree species planted included maple, golden rain tree, Natchez crape myrtle, Arizona cypress, and Hetzi juniper. The trees planted ranged from 15-20 gallon container sizes.
  • Trees were purchased by City of Edmond with a private donation for irrigation supplies, to be installed by Edmond Public Schools.
Thank you to this year’s Arbor Week sponsors: Edmond Public Schools, Frame Master Gallery, Citizens Bank of Edmond, and Edmond Historical Society & Museum.
