In 1872, a man by the name of J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in Nebraska, and is now celebrated all over the world.

While most states celebrate only one day of Arbor festivities, Oklahoma celebrates a full week! This is the time when we come together to appreciate the value trees provide to our community and to learn more about how to keep them thriving here… furthermore, it’s the perfect time to plant new trees throughout the city –at home and in public places.
